Message from the President

Greeting to the Membership:

Here it is August - time for rotating medical students taking a closer look at our Programs AND...in less then a month, the new applications will be pouring in! We just get everyone settled in for the new year and the "cycle of orthopaedic life" begins anew!

The Steering Committee has been working this summer on securing the speakers for the February meeting in Las Vegas. We have the honor of having Terry Light, M.D. confirmed as our Frederick Meyer Keynote Speaker and he is sure to deliver an exciting talk. Also, we are including workshops this year because your evaluations indicated that you wanted some practical tips and information to bring back to your programs. Please check out the preliminary agenda which has been posted on the ARCOS website.

In June six of the Steering Committee members attended the AOA conference in Quebec City. Dr. Peter Stern had some heartwarming comments about ARCOS and stated that the coordinators are "invaluable". Many program directors and residents came up to us and asked how to get their coordinators 'signed up'. We also put our heads together on getting some top-notch Program Directors for a panel discussion and Q&A. We've come up with great names and are contacting them to see whose schedule will allow them to join us and be part of the program.

In closing, I am thrilled to report that we have had some response to the Steering Committee openings that will be available this February, but we need more. ARCOS needs YOU to consider the wonderful opportunities that could be awaiting you as a Steering Committee member. It has been the most satisfying leap of faith that I have taken in my professional career and I would not have missed it for the world. Expand your horizons - the information to qualify for a position is posted on the website - get it together and send to Linda Miller at limiller@tulane.edu if you are interested. Take a leap - you will not regret it.
